If you talk to your typical sportsman and asked them if they use the IPhone in their outdoor adventures, they would probably give you a strange look.  Some of the non-technical outdoorsman would look at something like the IPhone as just the latest gizmo or gadget that the kids are using.  In fact, the IPhone can offer quite a few advantages and potentially replace some of your outdoor gear.

My IPhone is loaded with different types of applications that i use for hunting, camping, and just about any outdoor activity I do.  Some of the applications related to outdoorsmen are:

  • GPS applications offering a variety of GPS related capabilities from point to point routes to simple compasses
  • Animal and bird identification applications
  • How-to applications such as first-aid advice
  • Spot marker applications helping the fisherman find their favorite spot or the hunter find their tree stand
  • Animal call applications, which can either be used to call animals to you or help you mold your calling skills
  • Flashlight applications offering...  light!
  • Various weather applications letting you know what to expect outside today, tomorrow, or for the entire week
  • Satellite or internet radio when you are too far away to pick up radio stations

Of course, with all the outdoorsmen applications identified above, there thousands of other applications that can be used on an IPhone.  Stay tuned for reviews of IPhone applications on YooperGear.com in our Other Gear Reviews category.
