Surefire G2 Nitrolon FlashlightSurefire G2 Nitrolon

The Surefire G2 Nitrolon was my first introduction to the professional and tactical flashlight game.  Initially, I was hesitant to move away from the typical cheap flashlights you can get at Target, Walmart, or your local hardware store.  Once you have your typical hardware store flashlight next to a Surefire G2, the differences are easy to spot.

You will easily find the G2 outshines most spotlights and shines a natural light 3-4 times brighter than a typical D-battery flashlight.

The G2 is an extremely durable flashlight, which pushes out an impressive 65 lumens in a small body (less than 5" in length).  It is non-conductive and corrosion resistant.  The 65 lumens can be upgraded to neary 120 lumens depending on the bulb replacements you can install.

The light can either be turned on by twisting the cap or by pushing the tailcap button on the butt of the light.  It also allows you to turn the cap to the point where the light will either stay on by itself or not turn on at all.  I believe this feature is provided because it allows you to ensure the light will not turn on by itself if storing in a bag.

The G2 is one of the low-end models from Surefire.  They offer a whole variety of clips, sheaths, bezels, replacement bulbs, and much more.  Some people may hesitate at the fact that the G2 utilizes the 123A battery intead of typical AA, AAA, or D batteries, but these types of batteries can be found in bulk on Ebay.

The runtime is 1 hour, but I have had my G2 for what seems like much longer than an hour of runtime without replacing the batteries.

The bottom line is that if you have a Surefire, you have one of the best lights in the business.

Century Double Mantle Propane LanternCentury Double Mantle Propane Lantern

The double mantle propane lantern from Century was my first propane lantern in years.  I spent quite a bit of time reviewing a propane lantern vs. battery powered lanterns.  When comparing these two different types, you quickly find that high quality, battery powered lanterns are much more expensive than the propane style.

This propane lantern comes with the typical bail for easy hanging and carrying.  It also pushes out an impressive 137 watts with the brightness being fully adjustable.

Due to the price and output, I settled on this propane lantern.  I was not disappointed.  The lantern can light up an entire campsite.  The drawbacks to this (and any light at your campsite) are the flies and bugs.  Lights such as these draw the bugs by the millions.  It is best to place the lantern away just far enough away from you not to be effected by the bugs.

The Century Double Mantle Propane Lantern can be purchased at Cabelas.
